What does rizz mean?

Rizz is charm in action: the ability to attract someone, and also the act of trying. You can have rizz, use rizz, or rizz someone up, and a person who has plenty of it is a rizzler. Clips of smooth lines and clips of awkward failures both get filed under the word, because it measures the attempt as much as the result.

Where does rizz come from?

Rizz was coined by Twitch streamer Kai Cenat, who used it on stream around 2021 as shorthand for charisma. His clips carried it to TikTok through 2022, and in 2023 Oxford University Press named it word of the year, noting that it had gone from streamer slang to everyday speech.

How to use rizz

  • He spent the whole party trying to rizz up the girl by the speakers and got nowhere.
  • Unspoken rizz: he just stood there looking calm and the whole chat fell for him.
