The phrase borrows the register of an academic pledge and applies it to a meme, a character illustration or a thirty second clip. 我将严肃学习之 sounds like a scholar accepting a commission, which is exactly the joke. Sometimes it is honest, a way of saying this deserves attention. More often it confesses the opposite out loud: the post goes into the saved folder, where everything will be studied seriously on a date nobody sets. The gap between the solemn wording and the actual behaviour is the payload, which is why people write it under videos they have already finished watching.

The wording circulated in mainland gaming and 二次元 communities before crossing to Taiwan, where Threads and Facebook users picked it up in the middle of 2026. Dailyview published an explainer on 27 July 2026 about the flood of 我将严肃学习之 posts, and HK01 followed on 21 August 2026, describing a phrase that means the opposite of opening a textbook.
