What does meat proxy mean?
The image is blunt: a human reduced to a network hop. You ask a colleague a question, they ask a model, the model answers, and the answer travels back through a person who never processed it. Nothing was checked, nothing was reworded, and the person in the middle cannot say where the numbers came from. The insult lands because that exchange needs a body and a chat account, not judgement. It targets a specific failure of AI-era offices, where forwarding became cheaper than reading and the forwarder still collects the credit for having answered.
Where does meat proxy come from?
Developer Niklas Gruhn published a post titled Don't be a meat proxy on 3 August 2026, describing coworkers who paste chatbot answers straight into Slack. The line he quoted, I don't need a meat proxy in between, gave the term its shape. It reached the front page of Hacker News the same day, and Business Insider and Futurism both ran explainers later that month, on 25 and 26 August.
How to use meat proxy
- I asked him where the number came from and he had to go back to the chatbot and ask again. Total meat proxy.
- Just paste the answer yourself instead of using me as a meat proxy between you and the model.
