What does Passion mean?
Passion is the catchphrase of stand-up comedian Fu Hang (付航), who won 2024's 喜剧之王·单口季 (The King of Stand-up Comedy) by screaming “Passion!” as his life philosophy: stop being numb, stop lying flat, throw yourself at life at full volume. Chinese internet adopted it as the anti-languor slogan of the year — you type “人生需要passion” (“life needs passion”) to hype yourself or a friend out of bed and into action. The joke doubles in Chinese: his accented pronunciation sounds like 怕甚 (“fear what?”), so passion literally answers its own question.
Where does Passion come from?
Fu Hang's bits about being looked down on all his life — then choosing passion anyway — went viral on Douyin and Bilibili during his 2024 competition run. The finale, where he bellows “Passion!”, became a standalone audio meme reused in millions of motivational edits, graduation videos and gym clips through 2024–2025.
