What does 接 mean?

接 means 'catch', and people type it under posts and videos to grab a share of someone's good fortune. It shows up when a creator passes an exam, lands a job offer, pulls a rare character in a gacha game, or gets a yes to a love confession. Typing 接 works like a tiny ritual: you are holding out your hands so the luck can bounce your way. The longer form is 接好运 ('catch the good luck'), and some people add what they want, such as 接offer or 接上岸. It is light-hearted and friendly, a bit like commenting 'manifesting' or 'sending this luck my way' in English.

Where does 接 come from?

Bilibili named 接 its Bullet Comment of the Year for 2024, saying users sent it more than 5.76 million times that year. It grew out of a broader 'catch the good luck' (接好运) habit on Chinese social media, where people repost or comment on lucky images and success stories. The following year Bilibili's pick was 致敬.
