What does 我的滑板鞋 mean?

我的滑板鞋 is a 2014 internet phenomenon disguised as a song. Its maker, 庞麦郎, sings in an unsteady voice about a young man who finally finds the magic skate shoes he dreamed of and dances on a smooth floor at night, rubbing them against it. Listeners shared it first for the wrong notes and the thick 陕西 accent, but many stayed because the hunt for the shoes, and that one perfect night of dancing, turned out to be unexpectedly moving. 魔鬼的步伐, the devil's footsteps, became a stock phrase of the year.

Where does 我的滑板鞋 come from?

The track drifted around the internet for a while before erupting in late 2014, when it jumped from music sites into the mainstream and reporters set out to find its author. By January 2015 the story had soured: China News Service reported on 2015-01-16 that 庞麦郎 was accusing media profiles of fabrication, while a column on Sina's history channel on 2015-01-15 pleaded with the public to stop hurting him. The song survives its maker's troubles as a shorthand for homemade fame.
