What does 友谊的小船说翻就翻 mean?

The joke works by exaggeration. A friend eats the last piece of your cake, forgets to like your post, or replies with a single 哦, and you declare the friendship boat capsized. The next panel usually patches things up just as fast, because the whole point is how cheap both the sinking and the rescue are. Within weeks the 说翻就翻 template was applied to every relationship in sight: work, love, roommates, even appetites.

Where does 友谊的小船说翻就翻 come from?

The line comes from a four-panel comic by the illustrator Nandongni (喃东尼), whose two penguins share a tiny boat that keeps flipping over. Around spring 2016 the strip escaped illustration circles and turned into a caption template, or 翻船体, with Weibo users filling in their own jokes. People's Daily Online ran an explainer on the wave on 2016-04-14, the news site Guancha picked up the story the same day, and sports forums were still parodying it days later. The image of the flimsy boat has since become shorthand for any bond that snaps at the smallest bump.
